Dwayne Johnson might finally become Black Adam, with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. looking at spring 2020 to start shooting the film.

In 2014, huge waves were made in the comic book world when Dwayne Johnson was cast as Black Adam. However, it is 2019, and Johnson has yet to take an on-screen appearance as the character. Now, it looks like fans may finally see Black Adam on screen in the next few years.

According to Heroic Hollywood and That Hashtag Show, New Line Cinema is eyeing a spring 2020 date to start shooting the Black Adam movie. The movie is set to feature Black Adam going up against Hawkman and will also include Atom Smasher and Stargirl.

It appears that the Black Adam movie will take inspiration from Geoff Johns’ JSA run that sees Adam take on the role of an antihero. In this run highlighted by the “Black Rein” arc, the character is from the nation of Kahndaq and does do battle against Hawkman. Whether or not the Black Adam movie will feature the Justice Society of America is unknown, but the studio will have some thinking to do on who to cast as Hawkman to play opposite of megastar Johnson.

More from DCEU

Johnson has made himself very busy since 2014 and has grown into one of the biggest stars in the world. There have been countless rumors and speculation on when a Black Adam movie will start shooting. It was possible that Johnson could have made an appearance in Shazam!, but those rumors were cut down by Johnson himself.

A 2020 shooting date signals a release date of 2021 or 2022. The future of the DCEU is mixed right now. Justice League underperformed at the box office, there will be another Batman reboot and Henry Cavill’s role as Superman is up in the air.

Johnson is money at the box office, and it does not appear that his box office power is waning anytime soon. So the movie is nearly guaranteed to be successful financially. The quality of the movie is another question. Fans can only remain patient to see Johnson as Black Adam on the big screen.
