Disney Plus: All the MCU casting news to get excited about

At the D23 Expo on Friday, Disney announced the return of several fan-favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe characters for its Disney Plus shows.

Marvel fans began this week with terrible news – Spider-Man was going back to Sony – but all that changed with Disney’s slew of announcements at the D23 Expo. The conglomerate shared plenty of updates (via Deadline) for its original shows on Disney Plus, including new Marvel Cinematic Universe cast members and the return of several MCU supporting characters.

We list all the cast updates here:

Kat Dennings – Yes, lovable and quirky Darcy the intern is finally back! Dennings’ Darcy debuted in Thor and returned for the sequel, Thor: The Dark World. But like the rest of the Midgard characters, she didn’t appear in the threequel, Thor: Ragnarok. Now, it seems that Darcy has been given a new lease on life and will feature in WandaVision. The Disney Plus show will follow Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlett Witch and Paul Bettany’s Vision and will have a romantic, retro vibe to it. How does Darcy fit into all this? We’ll only find out when the show airs on the streaming platform.

Randall Park – Who amongst us didn’t fall in love with Park’s FBI agent Jimmy Woo in Ant-Man and the Wasp? He was doggedly determined to catch Scott Lang breaking his probationary clauses, but beguilingly kind when he was “proven” wrong. And now, Park is back in the MCU, reprising his role in WandaVision, as well. It isn’t clear how Woo and Darcy end up in the same circle as the superheroes, but we can expect plenty of hilarity from this cast of characters.

Emily VanCamp – We can all admit that VanCamp’s Sharon Carter, aka Agent 13, was under utilized in the Captain America films. Introduced as a love interest for Steve Rogers, Sharon seemed to strain against the trope from the moment she appeared on screen. Thankfully, we’ll be seeing more of her, this time fighting alongside Cap’s best friends, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. All MCU fans will look forward to Sharon finally being let loose as the spy and action hero that she is. Hopefully, no one will bring up that awkward kiss from Captain America: Civil War.

Miscellaneous – Kathryn Hahn, the voice of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s Doc Ock, joins the MCU as a ‘nosy neighbor’ on WandaVision, filling out that show’s cast list quite spectacularly. Another newcomer is Wyatt Russell (Black Mirror), who will be playing the supervillain Super Patriot on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Additionally, Game of Thrones alum Kit Harington is also set to join the superhero universe in an unknown property. Which character could the actor-formerly-known-as-Jon Snow be playing?

To round out the MCU news, the majority of the franchise actors will lend their voices to the animated What If… series, which will take a look at alternate storylines for the characters. The first episode in the series will feature Hayley Atwell, returning to voice the character of Peggy Carter. The show will envision a storyline where Peggy was given the Super Soilder Serum and became Captain Britain.

Disney Plus will launch on November 12 in the US and Canada.
