Could it finally be time to romantically pair Wonder Woman and Batman?

Shall we ship WonderBat as some like to call them? Batman and Catwoman’s wedding bells fail to ring. Why not finally push for this relationship to happen?

WonderBat is hardly a new idea. Fans see this idea blossoming originally in the Justice League animated series. Do you recall the dance they share? Perhaps you remember when they made out to escape the Thanagarians. At one point, John Stewart even questions this. Do not forget the infamous scene where she brings this up to Batman. If anything, she dismisses his argument of enemies using his relationship(s) against him. Some fans even question if such a thing was originally brewing in Justice League when they share a drink. Some fans were even expecting something in the comic The Brave and the Bold: Batman and Wonder Woman.

It is time to move past Batman and Catwoman. We forget that Batman has plenty of past relationships. Pondering him with another woman is not a terrible or new notion. Batman’s relationship history is long and complex. One cannot help but ask — when did he ever date a metahuman? What does this do and mean for Batman? Meanwhile, Wonder Woman’s relationship history is lackluster.

You have Steve Trevor… and that’s it. She has a few beaus in the Diana Prince run, but all were forgettable. In The New 52, we saw her with Superman, which at best had mixed reactions. Going back to Steve Trevor, one cannot help but wonder if he is simply interesting due to his pairing with Wonder Woman. In fact, this is why Denny O’Neil killed Steve Trevor in the Diana Prince run in the late sixties. With WonderBat, both people are interesting on their own. Wonder Woman is a feminist icon. Do we need to pin her down to the traditional path of a woman being with only one man, but a man with many women?

WonderBat can open the door to all kinds of new stories — Batman, a mere mortal with the goddess, Wonder Woman. We have dating inside the team then, as well. Both take their roles seriously. Diana Prince hardly exists much outside of her Wonder Woman role. Everyone knows the same for Bruce Wayne and Batman.

Many may question the killing rule, however. Batman does not kill, end of story. Wonder Woman’s is not as cut and dry. Remember her killing of Maxwell Lord in the comics. Diana herself was perfectly fine with this decision, having no regrets. Her teammates, of course, questioned this. In the Wonder Woman film, she had no problem with killing General Ludendorff, who she believes is Ares. None, if any fans bat an eye at her decision. I dare say, it depends more on who is writing Wonder Woman. Try out Greg Rucka’s original run, where she does not even eat meat. She is liberal to such a degree in his run that killing cannot be on her mind.

Already, many fans are crying foul, yelling no, Steve Trevor and Wonder Woman forever! Batman and Catwoman will marry one day! One must ask yourself, do these scenarios offer any new, inventive and creative story ideas? Remember Peter Parker was never meant to get MJ, but that changed. Can you imagine going to the ’80s and telling an X-Men fan that Cyclops and the White Queen or Emma Frost are an item? The fan would get on their soapbox immediately and let you have it. The truth is people grew to accept this relationship and do not particularly miss Jean Grey.

WonderBat does not have to be a permanent solution. No one is saying marry them right away. However, there is some fan desire for this item. We have teases of this in the past. All I’m saying is why not at least try it out?
