Elizabeth Olsen is looking forward to teaming up with Benedict Cumberbatch on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Going into this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, fans knew Elizabeth Olsen would return as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in Marvel Studios’ WandaVision on Disney Plus. But what they didn’t know is that it would lead directly into another appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which was revealed at SDCC. While it’s still in early development, but Olsen is already pumped about joining the sequel.

MTV News caught up with Olsen and her WandaVision co-star Paul Bettany at Disney’s D23 Expo last weekend. During the interview, she provided a brief update on the status of the Doctor Strange sequel, which she believes is currently being written.

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

Aside from diving deeper into the odd and mystical side of Marvel Cinematic Universe, the film will also give her the opportunity to act alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, a prospect she’s looking forward to:

"“I’m really excited. I’ve never really gotten to work with him except for one shot where he was landing, and I was shooting something and that was it. And we did that for like, six hours one day together.”"

There hasn’t been a true interaction between Wanda Maximoff and Stephen Strange yet, as Olsen points out. This is a bit ironic, given the fact that they occupy the same corner of the MCU. Strange uses magic to defend the multiverse, while Wanda’s powers, which were acquired by the Mind Stone, still have magical qualities. With this, it makes sense that the two will presumably join forces in Strange’s second film.

It’s still unclear as to the exact circumstances that bring them together, especially following the events of WandaVision. One theory is that Strange recruits her to help fend off a force in the multiverse after her experience with it in the limited series. Another possible explanation is that her experiences in the show could have an effect on the multiverse that catches Strange’s attention.

One thing we do know is both projects are primed to give viewers some scary and unorthodox concepts to chew on. WandaVision arrives on Disney Plus in early 2021, while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 7, 2021.
