Derek Kolstad shared a few details on what viewers can expect from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will feature the continuing adventures of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, not much is known about exactly what the two will be up to when fans see them next. Marvel Studios is, of course, keeping quiet about any specifics. But that doesn’t mean writer Derek Kolstad doesn’t have anything to say.

Kolstad, who is best known for creating the John Wick franchise, conducted a Q&A using Discussing Film’s Twitter account. Naturally, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier came up a few times, and he provided some small, but key, details. One aspect he mentioned is the fact that the show takes place in a “post-blip world“. With this, he hopes to have some fun and explore the darkness of a brave, new world.

He also mentioned that he hopes to employ several principles from his work on the John Wick movies. This includes diving into the characters and finding the various layers that make them up who they are. He also likes the idea of giving bigger roles to characters that previously served in supporting roles. On top of all this, he’s also aiming to employ some of John Wick’s world-building techniques.

Although Kolstad admitted that tackling this project, particularly Sam Wilson’s story, is “intimidating”, he seems to be looking forward to moving Sam and Bucky’s stories forward. With several episodes worth of storytelling and new and existing characters to play with, Kolstad and Marvel Studios will have many opportunities to introduce new stories and concepts to the MCU. And hopefully, Kolstad’s ability to blend action and story will shine through all the way.
