Dave Bautista may be laying the SmackDown in the MCU, but he’s also open to the idea of playing a DC Comics villain.

Dave Bautista is currently an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy as Drax, but he is also open to the idea of portraying one of the plethora of interesting DC Comics villains.

In this case, that would be Clayface – who is renowned for being part of Batman‘s extensive rogues gallery.

This was first reported by CinemaBlend.

In a post on Wednesday afternoon, August 28, Bautista retweeted a Twitter user’s comment – which claimed that if any Batman villain were to get a solo origin movie, it ought to be Clayface with Bautista in the role.

“I’m going to enthusiastically agree with you on that!” Bautista wrote.

At least eight characters, most of whom can shapeshift, have gone by the Clayface moniker over the years, most notably the original, Boris Karlo, and the second, Matt Hagen. Several of them have even worked together in a gang called the Mud Pack.

Given Karlo’s backstory (a B-movie horror actor driven insane by the remake of his greatest success), that seems like it would work better with Bautista in the lead role rather than Hagen, who was originally a treasure hunter turned criminal mastermind after gaining shapeshifting abilities through a pool of protoplasm.

Clayface appeared in the Birds of Prey TV series, but has not appeared a Batman film or in the Arrowverse.

Using the ring name Batista, Bautista wrestled for WWE from 1999 to 2019, retiring and returning twice during that period à la Michael Jordan. He had his final match at this year’s WrestleMania, where he lost to long-time friend Triple H.

One of Bautista’s early acting roles was a guest appearance on Smallville in 2006, and aside from the MCU, his biggest roles have been in the 2019 comedy Stuber, the 2015 James Bond film Spectre, and 2017’s Blade Runner 2049.
