9 Marvel Cinematic Universe moments that could be used for ‘What If…?’
By Mark Lynch
8. What if… the Defenders?
The Marvel Netflix shows were met with mixed reviews. While a couple of the shows were lackluster, the lead characters were loved (well, except for Danny Rand). Everyone loved Jessica Jones and Luke Cage’s attitudes. They said and did whatever they wanted. Daredevil and Punisher’s ruthlessness was a change from the fight scenes we see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. They also gave the audience a break from the Disney superhero projects, one that’s a little more realistic and mature. It’s a shame we didn’t get a crossover between the Avengers and the Defenders. It would have been the event everyone would have rushed to see.

The one thing that may have had over Defenders was the acceptance of the community, especially towards the end. Luke Cage was the savior of Harlem. Jessica Jones became a hero in the community. Daredevil was the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. The Punisher was, well, you know how he is. This may have ended with them teaming up, and it would have started with a fight, most likely caused by Kilgrave.
A fight between these two teams would be completely one-sided if Hulk or Thor were involved, but Luke can take whatever the other guys can throw at him. Jessica Jones isn’t a fighter but is stronger and more resourceful than she’s given credit for. Daredevil vs Black Widow would have been cool. And Punisher and Hawkeye would be bloody. We were deprived of something that could have been great. Plus, when the Black Order came to town, Doctor Strange could have teleported any nearby back up to the area.
