Superboy is the Golden Child in latest ‘Dark Knight Returns’ sequel
The latest Dark Knight Returns sequel will feature Jonathan Kent as the Golden Child.
For those who may not know the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, Jonathan Kent (also known as Superboy), here’s some info. He was created by Dan Jurgens and first appeared in Convergence: Superman No.2. Aside from the Conner Kent Superboy, Jon is the only true love child of the Man of Steel himself.
As revealed by Screen Rant, award-winning writer/artist has joined forces with Eisner-winning illustrator Rafael Grampá on the latest sequel to The Dark Knight Returns called Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child. This 48-page one-shot takes place three years after the conclusion of the last installment, Dark Knight III: Master Race.
Carrie Kelly, formerly known by her crime-fighting persona of Robin, makes a splash on the front cover as an alternate future version of Batwoman in a combat stance. She towers over a room full of clown-faced goons in a clunky, pouchy–gaunt circular suit together with a dark cape and cowl with mustard color accents. She dominates the page in a heavy, pink background.

What about the Golden Child in Jon Kent? Exactly what part does he play in the book? In keeping with the synopsis provided by Screen Rant, it appears that Jon is being used as an ace in the hole that could prove detrimental to the harbourmaster of said Golden Child and to those unfortunate souls that could stand in his way. The synopsis reads as follows:
"“When a terrifying evil returns to Gotham City, Lara and Carrie team up to take on this new threat, but this time with a secret weapon – Jonathan Kent. Known as the “Golden Child”, Jonathan possesses power unlike anything the world has ever seen and could be all that stands in the way of the destruction of Gotham City as well as the whole planet.”"
How did this evil get their hands on Jon? Plus, who could this evil be? Bruce Wayne is officially retired, so it is up to the new Batwoman in Carrie and Lara, the daughter of both Superman and Wonder Woman and Supergirl of this timeline, to retrieve her younger brother from the clutches of this sinister wretch?
