MCU: 30 sets of actors and crew who have worked together outside the franchise
16. Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan
Before they played cousins T’Challa and Killmonger in Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan shared a role on the soap opera All My Children. Boseman originated the role of Reggie Montgomery before he left the role and Jordan took over. This writer would have never thought it would be creepy and cool at the same time to have two then-future MCU actors to play the same character.
17. Anthony Mackie and Jeremy Renner
Before their time as Falcon and Hawkeye in the MCU, Anthony Mackie and Jeremy Renner worked together in the 2008 Oscar-winning film The Hurt Locker. The pair played two of the lead roles in the film. The film also starred Evangeline Lilly, who played Renner’s ex-wife.
18. Jon Favreau and Paul Bettany
Jon Favreau and Paul Bettany’s working relationship stems back years before the MCU. Both worked on the film Wimbledon, where Bettany played tennis player Peter Colt, while Favreau played Ron Roth. Years later, they worked together again on Solo: A Star Wars Story where Bettany played Dryden Vos, while Favreau provided the voice of Rio Durant.
19. Peter Dinklage and Kit Harington
If you’re reading this and you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, then you’ll love this one. In Avengers: Infinity War, we met Eitri, the King of the Dwarves who was the last of his kind. He was an ally of Thor’s father, Odin, and was familiar with Thor. We only see him in one scene and a fast fact: Peter Dinklage filmed his scene on a green screen without interacting with the other actors in the scene. Hemsworth and anyone else were added in during post-production.
Most fans of Game of Thrones will know Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, the outcast of House Lannister. They would also know Kit Harington as Jon Snow. With Harington having signed onto the upcoming Eternals movie, this marks another franchise the two GoT actors have worked on together.
20. Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving
If you’re a fan of V for Vendetta, then you might have seen the 2005 film of the same name. The film starred then-future Jane Foster, Natalie Portman and then-future OG Red Skull, Hugo Weaving.
Based on the DC/Vertigo graphic novel, the film stars Portman as Evey Hammond, a runner at a British Television Network in 2032 who is “rescued” by V, a masked man (Hugo Weaving), from being assaulted. She is later tortured, and her head is shaved.
Fun fact #1: Weaving wasn’t originally cast in the film. James Purefoy had been cast in the role first, but left the role a few weeks into filming and was replaced by Hugo Weaving. A number of scenes in the movie are still Purefoy’s performance while the majority of it is Weaving. To make it less obvious, Weaving’s voice was dubbed over Purefoy’s performance.
Fun fact #2: In the scene where Evey’s head is shaved, Portman’s head was actually being shaved, and it was shot in a single take. Portman even arrived at the Star Wars Episode III premieres with a bald head.
