Jonah Hill reportedly in talks to play The Riddler in The Batman
Oscar nominee Jonah Hill is reportedly being eyed to play opposite of Robert Pattinson as the Riddler in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
According to sources at Collider, Jonah Hill will be playing the Riddler in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Early rumors suggested Hill was set to play The Penguin. However, Variety is reporting that Hill is set for a secret role opposite Robert Pattinson and does not confirm nor deny any specific role for the actor. Variety is reporting that the deal is still in the works and could potentially fall apart.
Variety also mentions that Warner Bros. had long eyed Hill for a role in The Batman but put the casting on hold until a Batman was cast. While no official production date has been announced yet, insiders tell Variety that filming could start in late 2019 or early 2020. This timeline would make sense with The Batman set for a summer 2021 release date.
Hill is an accomplished actor, receiving two Academy Award nominations for his work in Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street. He is also well known for his work in comedy, most recently with the Jump Street franchise. His personality may draw some fans away, but movie studios still show a strong liking towards Hill.

Not much is known about the plot of The Batman, including whether or not Reeves will be adapting a specific storyline from the comics. Collider says that the story “is said to be a fairly dark mystery, much like WB’s own crime noirs of the ’30s and ’40s, with a rogues gallery of villains.”
If rumors are true that Matt Reeve’s The Batman will adapt The Long Halloween, then this would make a lot of sense, with Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s story being praised for its noir tone shown through its story and art.
The Riddler does play a role in this story, but it is not a large role. There is no confirmation on how large of a role Hill will play in The Batman, but the possibilities are endless regarding which character he will play and on how large of a role Hill will have in the movie.
