The Flash: Hunter Zolomon returns at the worst possible time

Hunter Zolomon, the Reverse Flash normally associated with Wally West, has returned to cause havoc in No.79 of The Flash.

One of the great things coming out of DC Rebirth was the exploration of the many forces of energy that keep the DC Multiverse in tow. In addition to the Speed Force (the extra-dimensional energy that is the source of all speedsters’ abilities), there is the Still, Strength and Sage Forces.

The latter three have been discovered recently by former FBI Agent and the archenemy of Wally West, Hunter Zolomon, as the sinister Zoom. CBR.com has revealed that Zolomon has returned in the latest issue of The Flash (No.79 – written by Joshua Williamson and Rafa Sandoval).

At the climax of the storyline, “Flash War”, which pitted Barry Allen and Wally West against one another (through machinations of Zoom), the opposing hot streak battle broke the Speed Force barrier in The Flash No.49, allowing Zoom to encompass the other Forces of Sage and Strength. Last we heard of Zolomon, he disappeared in the skirmish between both Flashes.

At that point, Zolomon rid himself of the Zoom name and proclaimed to be the one and only true Flash, even wearing a similar, full-body red attire. Barry, in the meantime, is caught between dealing with the other Force users and the Black Flash, an enforcer of the Speed Force that is the personification of death for speedsters. It seems also that due to the aforesaid force of speed eroding, the Black Flash seem to be eliminating all Force users to preserve its very existence.

Black Flash ended the life of Psych, a Sage Force user hailing from the European nation of Zandia, where super-villains go to receive diplomatic immunity. Psych betrayed Barry and his fellow heroic Force users, Fuertza and Steadfast. Just when things could not get any worse, Zolomon returned after so long to somehow get rid of Steadfast, so he can enhance his abilities of the Sage Force at the end of The Flash No.79. Clearly, Zolomon does not only want to be the Fastest Man Alive, but maybe nigh-omnipotent too.
