Warner Bros. is reportedly pushing J.J. Abrams to direct a DC movie with Superman, Green Lantern, and Justice League at the top of their list.

Along with the news of an Adam Strange TV series, Geeks WorldWide included news that Warner Bros. is pushing J.J. Abrams to direct a DC project. At the top of the list is Superman, Green Lantern and Justice League.

These three movies are expected to come out with each project being iconic and popular. GWW did not add much to their report, but it seems like Abrams will have his choice to direct any project he wishes.

The hesitation on Abrams’ end could be due to his busy schedule. He is currently working on a Spider-Man miniseries with his son, he has Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker coming out this year and he has a slew of projects he’s producing through his Bad Robot production.

Abrams originally wrote a script for a Superman movie in the early 2000s titled Superman: Flyby. However, the title was scrapped in favor of Superman ReturnsStoryboards were recently released by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey, who worked on the movie.

More from DCEU

Perhaps Abrams would like a second chance at Superman. It’s not confirmed, but the DCEU appears to be going through a soft reboot. This means directors can have their way with characters like Superman and the Justice League, which had a movie that underperformed at the box office.

Green Lantern Corps movie was announced a few years back and was set for a 2020 release, but that does not appear to be on track. DC and Warner Bros. would also like a redo of Green Lantern after the failed Ryan Reynolds movie back in 2011.

Abrams is an established director in Hollywood and has brought in big box office numbers with Star Wars and Star Trek. If Warner Bros. is looking to bring characters like Superman and Green Lantern or a team like the Justice League back in the global spotlight, then Abrams is the right guy to call.
