Kevin Feige to become Chief Creative Officer for Marvel
By Scott Brown
Kevin Feige has been one of the most consistent players in Hollywood for the past decade and, now, he’s moving even higher up in the ranks.
In an exclusive from Deadline, it is being reported that Kevin Feige is going to be made the Chief Creative Officer of Marvel, in addition to his title as the President of Marvel Studios. What this means is every executive from the Marvel division of Disney will now report to Feige. No longer will he simply be the head of the film division of Marvel, but he will be in charge of film, TV, and comics. According to Deadline, the move is going be finalized this week.
While he still reports to Walt Disney Co-Chairman and Chief Operating Officer Alan Horn and Co-Chairman Alan Bergman, this moves feels like it’s been a long time coming. Feige has been the mastermind of the critically and commercially successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, so placing the entirety of Marvel under his supervision feels like right move at this juncture.
Feige no longer has to jump through hoops with people such as Ike Perlmutter, who is notoriously hard to work with. Perlmutter will remain as Chairman of Marvel Entertainment and now report to Feige. Dan Buckley will also continue on as President of Marvel Entertainment, where he will oversee creative/editorial proceedings and report to Feige. For publishing, sales, licensing, etc., Buckley will report to Perlmutter.

Basically, this news means that Feige can move forward with Marvel with a relative level of autonomy since he’s now going to be in charge of creative development. What does this mean for the future of the MCU, though? It basically means that Feige can now do whatever he wants, within reason at least. And since he’s in charge of TV, the connective tissue between film and television will be stronger than ever, as already seen with the Disney Plus announcements. As for thecomics, it remains to be seen how those will be affected, if at all, but there will likely be a push to connect them to the MCU more than they already have been.
It was also announced recently that Kevin Feige will be producing a Star Wars film for Lucasfilm, so he is branching out from the Marvel umbrella, as well.
