Venom 2: A surprising new villain has been added to the film
It seems Carnage is not the only villain having all of the fun in Sony Pictures Venom 2.
As Sony is slowly building its shared universe after last year’s Venom was successful enough to kick-start the franchise, we have learned from Deadline that Carnage is not the only villain that will make an appearance in the sequel.
Shriek will be the secondary antagonist, presumably, in Venom 2 as Woody Harrelson, who appeared in a mid-credits scene in the original film, is set to reprise his role as Cletus Kasady and become the film’s main antagonist.
The character, previously a drug dealer named Frances Barrison, is a mutant better known as Shriek, who first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1993 within the pages of Spider–Man Unlimited No.1. The character was created by Tom Defalco, Mike W. Barr, Terry Kavanagh, Ron Lim, Mark Bagley and Jerry Bingham. Shriek is a highly amoral, dangerous and psychopathic criminal, usually associated with Carnage as a love interest.

For Venom 2, they may have to consider switching the character’s backstory, since the term and context surrounding the word “mutant” is owned by Disney and Fox. Shriek can manipulate sound waves, fly and tap into people’s minds and bring out their negative emotions.
A representative of Sony declined to comment on how Shriek will tie into the plot of the film. Another source stated that the casting process is underway. The project, of course, is still in early development and is not expecting principal photography to begin until early next year. In regard to Shriek’s casting, a source said, “Right now the role is not filled, the net is cast wide towards many kinds of actresses.” The source also added, “[They are] looking mostly at unknowns now.”
The follow-up to the 2018 motion picture featuring the titular antihero will have Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson reprising their roles. Andy Serkis is taking over the director’s chair and working from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel, who is also executive producing. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Hutch Parker are producing, while Sony Pictures is distributing. Venom 2 will web across screens on October 2, 2020.
