Wonder Woman 1984: Pedro Pascal confirmed to play Maxwell Lord

Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins took to Twitter to finally confirm Pedro Pascal’s character.

Wonder Woman 1984 is set to hit theaters on June 5, 2020.

While most of the cast was already known, we weren’t privy to who Pedro Pascal was playing. That was until Patty Jenkins went on Twitter and posted a picture of Maxwell Lord with the caption that said, “Well hello… Max.”

The post tagged Gal Gadot, the Wonder Woman Twitter account and Pascal confirming that we will be playing DC antagonist Maxwell Lord.

Pascal already has a role as the title character in The Mandalorian, and he has now added another franchise in his resume with him set to play Maxwell Lord.

Those who have read Infinite Crisis know that Maxwell Lord and Wonder Woman have a very interesting history together. Things may not go as graphic as it did in Infinite Crisis, but it is safe to say that Diana Prince and Maxwell Lord will not see eye to eye.

Maxwell Lord may be making his debut appearance on the silver screen, but he has already made quite a few appearances on the small screen. Gil Bellows portrayed the character in The CW’s long-running Superman prequel Smallville, and Supergirl fans will know Maxwell Lord as played by Peter Facinelli in the show’s first season.

Maxwell Lord is primarily a businessman who puts himself in the influence of metahumans. He typically does not possess any superpowers, but in some storylines, he is given powers. Recent iterations of the character have given him psychic powers to varying levels like the ability to control other humans.

He had a strong influence on the Justice League International in the Invasion! storyline, but it is Infinite Crisis that arguably gives Maxwell Lord his biggest claim to fame as an iconic antagonist in the DC Universe with his encounters with Booster Gold, Blue Beetle and Wonder Woman.

How large of a role Maxwell Lord will have in Wonder Woman 1984 is unknown at this point. The teaser trailer that may premiere next month at CCXP may give fans a better idea of not only the portrayal of the character but also his role in the movie.

Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah is set to be the movie’s primary villain so Maxwell Lord may just be a secondary adversary for Steve Trevor to deal with. Lord’s relationship with other DC characters may also open up more appearances of Pascal in the DCEU.
