Greg Berlanti to produce a Green Lantern series for HBO Max

Despite creating the Arrowverse, Greg Berlanti doesn’t seem to be done with the DC universe just set and is now setting his sights on Green Lantern and Strange Adventures.
As reported by Deadline, Greg Berlanti is going to produce two new shows for the upcoming streaming service HBO Max, Strange Adventures and a Green Lantern show. According to Berlanti both properties will be “unlike anything seen on television.”
Strange Adventures is described as “an anthology series of cautionary tales set in a universe where superpowers exist.” For the Green Lantern series though, Berlanti assured that the series will be the “biggest DC show ever made.”
As described, it seems that Strange Adventures will be taking a cue from the original series that it is taking its name from, which also was an anthology series featuring sci-fi horror. At least it can be assumed that the series will have a horror tinge as that is what most cautionary tales are. By being an anthology series as well, the show seems to be taking cues from The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror, seemingly solely focused on superpowers though.

Berlanti further described the series as wanting to “explore close-ended morality tales about the intersecting lives of mortals and superhumans,” and the series will feature established DC characters.
As for the Green Lantern series, this will the first time that the character takes flight since the box office and critical bomb of the 2011 Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds, which was also co-written and co-produced by Berlanti.
This series is being set-up as much more mysterious than Strange Adventures is with little to no information being given so far. Because of this, it’s unclear whether this series will be based on more singular incarnations of the series, focusing only on one character or be a more Green Lantern Corps focused series. Either way, it’s exciting to see Green Lantern returning.
The news comes not long after the respective reveals that Berlanti’s Arrowverse could be growing in the near-future due to potential spin-offs Green Arrow and The Canaries and Superman & Lois.
