Green Lantern series: Why it doesn’t need to look far for its star
Warner Bros ain’t holding back, announcing a jaw dropping series for HBO Max featuring Green Lantern. And the person wielding the Power Ring may be right under our noses.
We all knew the HBO streaming service, HBO Max, would have a lit lineup. The catalog is impressive enough to rival Disney Plus; especially with Warner Bros looking to add some DC live-action content. Well, Warner Bros isn’t holding back on their DC content and we’re here for it. No, we’re not talking about DC’s Strange Adventures or Super Hero High. The hype comes from the live-action Green Lantern series.
Fan casts will undoubtedly hit the web, but there’s no need. The leading Green Lantern has been sitting under our noses for years — no, it’s not Ryan Reynolds.
Who might be the Green Lantern?
The man who should and could be the Green Lantern in the upcoming series is… David Ramsey as John Stewart. Yes, that’s right – we’re talking about Arrow‘s John Diggle.
For some time now, fans theorized, some fantasized about John Diggle low-key being a Green Lantern, specifically John Stewart. The signs were there, his name was John, he had a military background plus David Ramsey is a beast of an actor.

Okay, so it was a bit of a stretch. Still, many of us hoped Diggle would some day spin-off into Green Lantern. Of course, that didn’t happen; instead he became Spartan. All hope was lost. That was until the Arrowverse gave us a tease… no a gift.
Arrow Season 7, Episode 19, “Spartan”, was that gift. John Diggle’s military stepfather, General Stewart surprised team Arrow and fans alike. The last name gave us cause to pause as thoughts of John’s stepfather dying and him taking his last name to honor him — but alas, the general lived and there was no such story.
However, after his debut, the internet went insane. Once again rumors that John could get a spin-off series surfaced. Still, that episode paled in comparison to what happened during the Arrowverse’s Elseworlds crossover.
Arrow, Elseworlds Part Two
On this episode, fans were introduced another Barry Allen from Earth-90 – portrayed by the original Flash from the ’90s TV series John Wesley Shipp. His debut was cool but it was the major bomb he dropped during the episode that was even cooler.
Barry looked perplexed, staring at John before noting that he (John) wasn’t wearing his power ring. Yeah, that happened.
At the time it was thought of as a way to pay homage to fan theories about John. However, what if it was more than pandering to fans? What if it was Warner Bros and Berlanti’s way to gauge our reaction? Surely they took note of the positive reaction that the tease received.
With Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti now bringing a live-action Green Lantern to HBO Max; don’t be surprised if David Ramsey ends up appearing as the Green Lantern of Earth-90. There are plenty of fans who want to see Ramsey as Green Lantern and now, with Arrow ending, it could finally be his time.
