Willem Dafoe not against a Spider-Man appearance in MCU
Former Green Goblin actor, Willem Dafoe, is open to appearing in Spider-Man film within the MCU.
Via CBR.com, Willem Dafoe was asked by Cinema Blend whether he would play Norman Osborn/Green Goblin again, but this time within the MCU. This was taken from an interview a while back. On the subject of appearing in the MCU Dafoe stated when asked:
"“Oh god. Norman Osborn was a really fun role to play. I don’t know about that, I don’t know what they’re doing. That was then, this is now. Who knows?”"
While Dafoe did not exactly rule out a potential appearance as one of Spider-Man’s deadliest archenemies or any other character for that matter, it is not a definite answer either. Although fans would undoubtedly love to see him to reprise his role. After all, J.K. Simmons did reprise his role in a brief cameo as J. Jonah Jameson in the mid-credits scene for Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Dafoe is arguably one of the most of esteemed actors of our time. Each of his roles were challenging in its own right, from Loveless to Oliver Stone’s Platoon, Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ to The Boondock Saints and Shadow of the Vampire to Antichrist. So, unless it will be something which can really sink his teeth into the role, it may not happen.

Returning to familiar territory may not be something Dafoe would particularly want to do either, though. On the other hand, unless it’s something Jon Watts may have to come up with an angle on the Norman Osborn character that Dafoe can explore. Maybe the Dark Reign era Osborn overthrows S.H.I.E.L.D. with his own reformed and covert intelligence agency, H.A.M.M.E.R. and bankrolling his very own Dark Avengers. Dafoe then added:
"“Now’s a really good time. I’m finding really interesting things to do. So… I can’t wrap my head around that question.”"
Although the antagonist for the third Spider-Man installment of the Homecoming film series is under wraps, there were some rumblings of Hobgoblin being a possibility. Perhaps if Dafoe portrayed Jason Macendale as one of the Goblins in a scenarios that involved Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds being a patsy used to conceal the true Hobgoblin? Stranger things have happened, right?
