Bruce Wayne is joining the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, and both Kevin Conroy and Marc Guggenheim couldn’t be happier.

The Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover promises to be an earth(s)-shattering event filled with surprises and guest stars. This includes Kevin Conroy, who, after voicing the character for decades will play a live-action Bruce Wayne. Seeing the actor bring the Caped Crusader to life is a dream come for fans, as well as for Conroy and producer Marc Guggenheim.

Both spoke with EW about Bruce Wayne’s involvement in the superhero spectacular, with Guggenheim calling Conroy’s performance “stupendous”. He also explained that the inclusion of Bruce Wayne was the realization of a personal dream:

"“One of the things that was always on my bucket list is that I wanted to see old Bruce Wayne. We talked about a variety of different casting possibilities, but [Legends of Tomorrow showrunner] Keto Shimizu, who is a huge animated Batman fan, pointed out that Kevin is the right age. We reached out to Kevin and he couldn’t have been more lovely and more game for it.”"

Conroy, who reportedly “jumped at” the opportunity to play Wayne, was partially inspired to take the role by the Batman: The Animated Series fanbase and a desire to perform the character on camera:

"“There’s a real loyalty among the [Batman: The Animated Series] fanbase and an interest in seeing me do it on-camera as well. So I think they thought this was an opportunity to take advantage of that interest.”"

In approaching the role, the actor aimed to explore “[the] dark corners of Bruce Wayne” but those that differed from the ones seen in Batman Beyond. But despite his eagerness and knowledge of the character, he faced a bit of a learning curve:

"“It threw me at first. I never approached this character from that physicalized aspect. I always just inhabited him with my voice. When you do that in a recording studio, it’s a very intimate experience and you’re sort of living in your own imagination… To actually be on the set, in the physical world, and to be walking as the character and inhabiting the character in three dimensions, it was a real transition for me.”"

Conroy’s Wayne appears in the Batwoman installment of the crossover and got to work with Ruby Rose and Melissa Benoist, who he had nothing but kind words for. The character’s specific role in the story is being kept under wraps. However, interestingly, he’ll be sporting an exoskeleton.

The veteran voice actor began voicing Bruce Wayne in 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series and has since become the definitive voice of the Dark Knight for a generation. His acting abilities paired with his ties to Batman lore made him an obvious choice for the crossover. And hopefully, he’ll get plenty to do when he shows up on screen.
