With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker mere weeks away, J.J. Abrams revealed that at least one script has been leaked ahead of the film’s release.

Writer, producer and director of the latest entry in the epic space-opera franchise, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, J.J. Abrams, has revealed at least one script from his project has been leaked.

In an interview with Good Morning America, Abrams confirmed that a script for The Rise of Skywalker was on eBay. The script made its way to the online retailer after an actor misplaced it “under [the] bed” likely at the time of filming. While Abrams did not reveal the identity of the one responsible for making the mistake, he explained how it took place:

"“One of our actors, I won’t say which one – I want to, but I won’t – left it under their bed and it was found by someone who was cleaning their place.”“And it was given to someone else, who then went to sell it on eBay.”"

However, the actual theft the script in question had been averted by one of the online watchdogs from Disney’s camp in a successful attempt to prevent sensitive information fom leaking out. The spy found the script for The Rise of Skywalker up for sale and swooped in to buy it back. Lucasfilm recovered it, avoiding what could have been a PR nightmare.

While leaks of plot details on upcoming films tend to happen quite frequently, if not from script leaks, some test screenings or mismanagement from HR, some cases are refuted as speculation and tend to be (for the most part) rumors. In other cases, sometimes these leaks can be true like what happened to films like Ghostbusters, Deadpool 2 and to a minor extent, X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
