Ezra Miller’s The Flash is looking to roll cameras at some point in 2021.

At this point, the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is over six years old. Through all the bumps and bruises, the shared universe has finally produced films that were consistent in reviews and box office. DC Films currently sees to have a plan for properties such as Superman and Green Lantern. Also, in the cards is the long-awaited Flash movie, and it has now been reported by Variety that cameras are set to roll on The Flash in 2021.

Ezra Miller, who had been cast as Barry Allen/The Flash as early as 2016 and appeared in cameos in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad  before making his full appearance in Justice League, is set to reprise his role as Credence Barebone in the next upcoming entry in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

The fact that Miller is expected to film throughout 2020 seems to match up with that, and based on the conclusion of the previous film, Miller’s Wizarding World character is expected to play a major role in Fantastic Beasts 3Variety said:

More from DCEU

"“Warners and DC also still have faith in Ezra Miller’s smart**** interpretation of the Flash and are proceeding with development on a standalone film based on the character… Production on The Flash won’t be able to start until Miller finishes up work on the Fantastic Beasts film, which means that cameras are unlikely to roll until 2021.”"

Andy Muschietti, who is known for directing 2017’s It and this year’s It: Chapter Two, has been tapped to direct The Flash, while Bumblebee’s Christina Hodson is currently writing the screenplay before penning a script for a Batgirl film. Michael Disco and Barbara Muschietti will produce. Hopefully, the Muschietti’s are the ones who get the Scarlet Speedster onto the cosmic treadmill and allow him to zip towards the big screen.

Hodson has already written Birds of Prey, which is being helmed by newcomer Cathy Yan. It is no secret that Flash has been a challenging IP to adapt, even as the DC character has a show that’s been airing on the small screen for over five years and counting on The CW. Muschietti replaced filmmaking duo, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein in the director’s seat, but not before Miller and comics scribe Grant Morrison decided to take a stab at the screenplay. We’ll just have to wait and see how things pan out for the fan-favorite hero’s big-screen venture.
