Ezra Miller’s The Flash is set to speed into theaters in 2022
The Flash may finally be headed for the starting line, as Warner Bros. has given it a new release date.
Back in 2014, almost two years prior to his cinematic debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Barry Allen was announced as the centerpiece of his very own film. As the pieces of the DCEU shifted over the years and different directors boarded and subsequently left the project, however, the Scarlet Speedster’s solo adventure appeared to take a back seat in the DCEU.
With Warner Bros. moving forward with projects like Birds of Prey, Black Adam and Shazam!, audiences wondered when The Flash would join the studio’s promising slate. Now, with It director Andy Muschietti at the helm of the project, the much-anticipated film has been given a release date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Flash will run into theaters on July 01, 2022.
For those not following the film’s long road to production, the movie was originally expected to hit theaters in 2018. In typical superhero fashion, not much is known about the film, but Muschietti did offer a little insight into what he wishes to tackle. The director previously discussed the human elements that attracted him to Barry Allen’s story:

"“What captivated me about the Flash is the human drama in it […] The human feelings and emotions that play in the drama [of it]. It’s going to be fun […] it’s a beautiful human story.”"
With so many twists, turns and delays some may be unwilling to get excited about this new release date. This time, though, it seems the movie is finally on track. Ezra Miller has remained committed to the movie since its inception and, with a new release date finally set, it seems Andy Muschetti is sticking around, as well.
As he proved with the It franchise, Muschietti has a special eye to balance comedy, drama and horror. Given the nature of the character, Flash’s film may not feature horror elements, but it will surely feature moments of levity, as well as the drama that’s inherently attached to Barry Allen’s life. Taking that into account, The Flash is shaping up to be a promising (and exciting) entry in the ever-expanding DC Universe.
