Star Wars: The 10 best villains of the Skywalker Saga, ranked
By Scott Brown
8. Asajj Ventress
Who better to be an assassin than one who is Force-sensitive? That’s exactly what Asajj Ventress is before she is betrayed by Count Dooku and becomes a bounty hunter. Ventress is more than just a simple villain though as she has gone through a drastic character journey, becoming more of an antihero throughout her life.
Starting out her life as a Nightsister before being brought into the Jedi Order, Ventress quickly turns to the Dark Side after she feels betrayed by the Jedi, who she believes allowed her master to die. Because of this betrayal, Ventress is brought under Count Dooku’s wing as an apprentice before being betrayed by him as well, becoming a bounty hunter in the process.
Ventress is a great example of a character driven by her hatred and rage that originally makes her great villain. But very quickly, she breaks out of that simple assassin mold and becomes something much more. She’s one of the most complex characters in Star Wars and is often ignored, as she only appears in Clone Wars and in the best canon novel, Dark Disciple. (Read Dark Disciple if you haven’t, it’s brilliant.) In these two things alone, Ventress had character development rarely seen in Star Wars, making her one of the most compelling villains in the franchise.
