Marvel’s What If…? won’t arrive until 2021, but that hasn’t stopped Disney Plus from renewing it for a second season.

Marvel Studios currently has a list of projects in development for Disney Plus, including the studio’s first animated venture, What If…?. Although the series isn’t expected to drop for a while, it seems it already has the green light for a second season.

Buzzfeed Brazil caught up with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige during Brazil’s CCXP convention, where he mentioned that he’s seen most of the What If…? episodes He also confirmed that season 2 is already in production:

"“I’m very happy that we’re doing the What If…? series for Disney+ right now, and I’ve seen most of them. We have ten for Season 1, we’re already working on the next ten for Season 2.”"

As the first animated project from Marvel Studios, What If…? ushers in somewhat of a new era for a company that has mostly produced films. And Feige is excited to share this new look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the public:

"“We’ve revealed one that is very exciting, we’ve talked about it for years, which is the one where Peggy Carter gets the Super Soldier serum and becomes Captain Carter. That’s the very first episode, and I’m excited for people to see that. I’m excited to see the finished version of that, and I’m excited for the world to see it.”"

What If…? was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con this past summer, during which Feige unveiled its all-star cast and pilot episode. Jeffrey Wright was also revealed to be lending his voice to The Watcher, who will serve as the narrator of the cel-shaded, anthology series. Since SDCC more has been revealed from the show such as footage of T’Challa dressed in Star-Lord-esque outfit and Bucky facing off with a zombified Captain America.

Like the comic book of the same name, the series aims to introduce hypothetical scenarios involving some of Marvel’s most famous characters. In this case, the stories will relate to the MCU continuity. Showrunner Ashley Bradley has stated that it will potentially cover characters and events from the franchise’s biggest moments. And as you would expect, she and her team are looking at all possible story angles.

Such an early renewal indicates that Disney has a lot of confidence in Bradley and Feige’s vision, which bodes well for the show’s future on the streaming platform.
