Here’s what J.J. Abrams thinks Finn wanted to tell Rey in ‘The Rise of Skywalker’

J.J. Abrams has revealed what Finn wanted to say to Rey when he faced death in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Minor spoilers lie ahead.
Some would say Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker concluded the Skywalker Saga on a satisfying note, while others are still thinking about some unanswered questions. Luckily for them, director J.J. Abrams may have just divulged one of the film’s biggest mysteries, and it could have major ramifications
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently held a screening of The Rise of Skywalker with Abrams in attendance. Kaila Ren of The DisInsider also attended the screening and tweeted that Abrams spoke with several fans afterward. It was during these chats, she says, that the director revealed that Finn planned to tell Rey he’s Force-sensitive.
In a later tweet, Kaila Ren stressed that this is what Abrams believed Finn wanted to say, but he purposely left the matter open-ended. This makes the validity of Finn being Force-sensitive somewhat uncertain but, as it’s coming from the director and co-writer of the movie, it’s not crazy to think this could become the gospel truth.

Most assumed Finn really wanted to tell Rey he loved her, as the two have shared a close relationship over the course of the Sequel Trilogy. This notion, however, was quickly shot down by John Boyega, who portrays the character.
Finn having a strong connection to the Force may seem to come out of left field, but it’s not that crazy a notion. The Rise of Skywalker depicts Finn as having a deeper respect for the Force. Even when speaking to Jannah, he mentions “having a feeling” and stresses how the Force is what brought the two former Stormtroopers together.
Maybe Finn will end up being the Jedi he was initially built up to be leading up to The Force Awakens. Of course, we’ll also have to wait and see if Lucasfilm actually chooses to consider Abram’s sentiments.
