Detroit Pistons
The Bad Boy Detroit Pistons are easily the scariest team to ever play in the NBA. It wasn’t because they were going to shoot their opponents out of the building, it was because they played a very physical (and scary) brand of basketball. That Pistons team had Bill Laimbeer, Dennis Rodman, Rick Mahorn, and a host of other guys who’d knock you to the ground if you drove to the lane. They took pride in hitting harder than any other team in the league. It was just their culture.
Later, a new Pistons team did the impossible. They beat the highly favored L.A. Lakers in the NBA Finals. Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, Ben and Rasheed Wallace, and Tayshaun Prince played team ball and took out Kobe and Shaq. This was when Shaq was at his greatest and Kobe was in his prime. It didn’t matter. That year, the best team beat the best players.
Winter Soldier
You wanna talk about scary and physical? Look no further than Winter Soldier. When Bucky was being controlled by Hydra, there was nothing he wouldn’t do to complete his goal. Bucky has killed and fought all over the world. If you saw him, it’s because he wanted you to see him before he took you out. Bucky would have gotten along Bad Boy coach Chuck Daly. He would have been more than happy to mix it up if he was asked to.
Before and after his Hydra days, Bucky was the perfect teammate. Someone you could count on to watch your back in a fight and remain concerned about the team more than himself. A quality the 2004 Pistons used when they beat the Lakers.
