Sony may be aiming for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to make an appearance in the Venom sequel.

The sequel to Venom is currently shooting with most of the original film’s returning and Andy Serkis now in the director’s chair. There are still a number of questions regarding the film’s plot. The biggest, however, would have to be the possible inclusion of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, which may be close to becoming a reality.

GWW reports that Sony is currently in negotiations with Tom Holland to reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Venom 2. The trade mentions that this news comes from a casting breakdown and that the role would only be a cameo. It’s also stressed that there’s a chance a deal won’t be reached between the two sides.

Since Sony and Disney came to terms on a new licensing agreement to keep Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many have wondered about future crossovers. In his statement regarding the new deal, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige even teased the possibility of Peter Parker jumping into Sony’s Marvel Universe.

There’s also reason to believe Sony and Marvel have been planning this for a while. Ruben Fleischer, who directed 2018’s Venom, believes the two studios have always been aiming to link their movie universes.

If Holland is to appear in the Venom sequel, a cameo may be the most ideal way to proceed. Marvel Studios is shrewd when it comes to its creative choices, and they may want to tread lightly if they plan to link the Venom films to the MCU.

Should the two sides fail to reach an agreement, it wouldn’t be the first time a Spider-Man cameo was cut from a Venom film. With this, it’s hard to say how things will turn out, so we’ll just have to find out when Venom 2 hits theaters on October 2, 2020.
