New footage from Marvel Studios’ Black Widow is on the way, and it’s coming sooner than you think.

Things have been relatively quiet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe lately, but things are sure to ramp up when Black Widow arrives in May. Fans have had their official first look at Natasha Romanoff’s first solo outing and are already asking for more. Now, we know when we’ll get another peek at the film.

New Black Widow footage is slated to be unveiled on January 13th during the College Football Playoff National Championship on ESPN. The footage is being billed as an “exclusive look”, with Trailer Track even stating that it won’t be a formal trailer. Nevertheless, this footage is coming fairly quickly, as the first trailer only dropped at the beginning of December.

Marvel Studios — or Disney — has been known to find ways to promote their films during nationally-televised events, ranging from the Super Bowl to the NBA Finals. The College Football Championship, in particular, served as the debut for the second Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer back in 2015.

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

With the second batch of footage on the way, the biggest question is obviously what fans might see. It could feature shots from a variety of scenes that either have or haven’t been shown, or it could just be a single extended scene.

Based on the reactions to the first trailer, fans may be hoping to see more of Natasha’s supporting cast, especially Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova and David Harbour’s  Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian. Seeing a little more of Taskmaster, the film’s antagonist, wouldn’t hurt either.

The public is going to see the movie regardless of promotion, but putting out new footage can have very few negative effects on its chances at the box office. Let’s just hope we don’t see too much footage until Black Widow hits theaters on May 1, 2020.
