Kevin Feige teases LGBT character in an upcoming MCU film
Marvel CCO and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has teased a transgender character for a future MCU film.
For quite some time, the LGBTQ+ community has been looking for representation within the MCU , but so far it seems DC Films is beating Marvel to the punch with Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask, who will reportedly be depicted as gay in the upcoming Birds of Prey film. Now, it looks as though Marvel Studios will follow suit.
During a Q&A at the New York Film Academy, CCO of Marvel Entertainment and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige discussed key topics like inclusion. A fan asked Feige if there will be any LGBT characters making appearances in the MCU. Feige responded positively to this. “Yes,” the producer said. “Absolutely. Yes. Very soon. In a movie we’re shooting right now.”

In the last few years, Marvel has not shied away from pushing further the landscape of diversity and representation across their films. The success of both Black Panther and Captain Marvel is continuing to inspire African Americans and women around the world, who can identify with and be enthused by these dynamic characters. Future MCU installments like Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings are likely to have this same effect.
It will be interesting to note as to which film the transgender character will appear. With the film currently shooting, it is likely Chloé Zhao’s The Eternals. In the past, Feige even confirmed that the film will include an LGBT character in a major role. As for the character, it could possibly be the leader of the Eternals, Ajak, portrayed by Salma Hayek. Ajak, created by Jack Kirby, was originally a straight male.
