Christian Bale is reportedly in negotiations for an unknown role in Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder.
According to a report from Jeff Sneider of Collider, Christian Bale is in talks to join Thor: Love and Thunder. Yes, that’s right, Batman himself is in talks to join another comic book property. If Bale officially ends up boarding the Taika Waititi-helmed film, he will be joining an already star-studded cast that has Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman.
According to the report, Marvel has no comment on the matters as of now. Regardless of comment or not, this isn’t the first time a former Batman actor has been cast in an MCU film, as Michael Keaton portrayed the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
If Bale does join the cast, this will be the first comic book property the has been a part of since The Dark Knight Rises released in 2012. Since he finished his time in the Batsuit, Bale has been nominated for three Oscars for his roles in American Hustle, The Big Short, and Vice. Bale also won an Oscar in 2010 for his role in The Fighter.
He most recently starred in James Mangold’s critically acclaimed Ford v. Ferrari in which Bale delivered another role that has gained him serious awards buzz. Needless to say, Bale is a fantastic talent and, if Marvel manages to bring him on for Love and Thunder, it would be a major positive for the film.

The role that Bale could be playing is being kept under wraps, but it would be interesting to see him take a villainous turn, possibly as Gorr the God Butcher. The entirety of “The God Butcher” storyline is a great mix of time travel and multiple Thors, so it’s possible this is where Love and Thunder is taking inspiration from, especially given the assumption that Jane Foster is taking on the mantle of Thor. Even if Bale took on the role of Dario Agger, it could be a fun pastiche of sorts of his role in American Psycho. And some fans have already starting speculating — and hoping — that he’ll finally bring the character of Beta Ray Bill to life.
Still, if talks don’t break down and Bale ends up being in the movie, Bale should be able to bring inject his talents into any role he plays. Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021.
