Here’s every award Joker is nominated for at the Oscars
Joker is nominated for a historic 11 Oscars, but just which categories was it nominated in?
Joker was undoubtedly one of biggest films of 2019. Though a divisive offering, it did receive acclaim from critics for how it ultimately produced a gritty and compelling character-driven offering similar to those that would get nominated for Academy Awards. Ironically, it’s only gone and done that, hasn’t it?!
Yes, after landing some major nominations and wins at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, the film has made history by scoring 11 nominations for the Oscars – a feat that is simply unheard of for a comic book movie.
However, if you’re struggling to find out which awards it has been nominated, look no further as we’ve got you covered.
Here is a list of the awards that it has been nominated for at the 92nd Academy Awards:
- Best Picture – Joker
- Best Director – Todd Phillips
- Best Leading Actor – Jaoquin Phoenix
- Best Adapted Screenplay – Joker (Todd Phillips & Scott Silver)
- Best Original Score – Joker (Hildur Guðnadóttir)
- Best Sound Editing – Joker (Alan Robert Murray)

It has been enjoying an incredibly successful run during awards season, but this is by far its most impressive achievement so far.

Comic book-inspired films tend to struggle at awards ceremonies and, although they can chock up some impressive nominations in certain production categories (which Avengers: Endgame successfully did this year in the Best Visual Effects category), they struggle with the main categories – with many fans claiming that there is a bias against them.
However, occasionally a superhero movie can defy the odds and land a nomination in one of those categories – something we saw in 2009 when the late, great Heath Ledger won the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight and in 2019 when Black Panther earned itself a nomination in the Best Picture category (alongside a multitude of other nominations).
