Details about the Green Lantern series, set for HBO Max, reveal we’re getting more than one Lantern and the infamous villain, Sinestro.
It’s been a big week for DC shows, though most of that focus has been with a certain Crisis in the Arrowverse. While the character Green Lantern didn’t appear, Greg Berlanti, the mastermind behind the Arrowverse, has big plans over at HBO Max with his upcoming Green Lantern series.
There isn’t much known about this new series, but Deadline reports on the few details revealed at the TCA press corps—there will be two Green Lanterns and Sinestro involved in the series. These details were announced by Head of Original Content for HBO Max, Sarah Aubrey:
"“It’s going to span several decades on focus on two stories about Green Lanterns on Earth” as well as one in space “going into the Sinestro story.”"
While the identities of the Green Lanterns aren’t revealed, we can begin to guess with these context clues. If Sinestro is planned to be part of the story, one can bet that Hal Jordan will likely be one of the two Green Lanterns, as the two have a complicated history.

Sinestro was part of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic law enforcement agency protecting all the different sectors of the universe. When Hal Jordan first joined the Corps, he was assigned Sinestro as his instructor. Jordan wasn’t keen on his mentor’s totalitarian ways and, when the rest of the Corps finally bore witness to this side of Sinestro, he was eventually kicked out and banished to the antimatter universe.
If we assume that, like most of Berlanti’s DC shows, this story takes place in modern times and the series is going to cover several decades, we can begin to guess who the other Green Lantern is going to be. Another common theme with Berlanti’s shows is the use of flashbacks. Enter Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern.
Even his name has an old-timey feel to it. With the right touch, a wonderful story could be told across time about these two characters that share a common power. With a few changes from the source material, there are bound to be some powerful stories told on the Green Lantern series.
