Watchmen

You can’t talk about comic book shows without bringing up HBO’s Watchmen. This show was nothing like the movie and comic book. It’s A show that took a big chance by focusing on strong black and female characters and, in the process, it made them iconic. The didn’t hide what they were doing, either. This also helped to further prove that you CAN have a strong woman as the lead in a major project.

From the first few minutes when they showed the massacre on Black Wall Street, everyone knew they were in for a different kind of ride. They pushed the envelope in a way we haven’t seen before. And when it was over, that was it. Writer and producer Damon Lindelof has confirmed that he won’t be returning for a second season. This may disappoint some, but it was the right decision. This is the ideal way to approach a show. Give everyone a flawless story and then ride off into the sunset. Sometimes leaving viewers wanting more is the best way to satiate them.

Comic book shows also give people a way to view their favorite characters in private and at their own leisure. Why watch something in a crowded place at a specific time when you can watch it in the comfort of your own home anytime you want? The biggest advantage may be that everyone can get a well-thought-out story. Sometimes comic book movies leave a lot to be desired. For example, Wolverine would have been better served with a show instead of three movies.

This also means you don’t have to stifle something that could be important. The future for comic book shows is looking bright and prosperous.
