Vin Diesel is still hoping for a chance to play Black Bolt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Vin Diesel hasn’t given up his campaign to play the leader of the Inhumans. ComicBook.com caught up with the Guardians of the Galaxy star, who says his landing the role all depends on the fans. He also finds it funny that he could go from playing a character who only says three words to one that says nothing at all:

"“It’s up to you guys. Let’s just say it’d be a real practical joke on Vin to give him a character that says three monosyllabic words and then follow up with another character that says nothing. Crazy? You saw that.”"

Diesel has been circling the role of Black Bolt for years, having first expressed interest in 2014 shortly after Marvel Studios announced an Inhumans film. At the time, he had just made his MCU debut as Groot in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. And despite having played the character in four films now, Diesel still wants Black Bolt.

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

Reports of an Inhumans movie first surfaced in 2011 before Marvel confirmed it to be part of its Phase Three slate in 2014. Plans changed, however, when the project was taken off the schedule and sent to Marvel TV. This small-screen adaptation premiered on ABC in the fall of 2017 and garnered low ratings and poor reviews. With this, ABC quietly canceled the series in early 2018.

It’s recently been reported that the property could find new life with Marvel Studios and Disney Plus. Anson Mount, who played Black Bolt on the show, has suggested a reboot is in the works. Aware of Diesel’s desire for the role, Mount even mentioned him as a possible successor.

Marvel Studios has made no public comment on a future Inhumans project or the 2017 show. When asked for his thoughts on ABC’s interpretation of the Royal Family, studio head Kevin Feige jokingly dodged the question.

Unless something changes, the only MCU film Diesel is currently set to appear in is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which won’t start filming for at least another year.
