Swamp Thing: The Complete Series arrives on Blu-ray: What to expect

Swamp Thing: The Complete Series has finally made its way to DVD and Blu-ray, providing fans the chance to own the complete series. However, is it worth the purchase?

When looking back at DC Universe’s Swamp Thing, it’s hard not to think of the incredible storylines left untold due to the brevity of the show’s one-season run. In just ten short episodes, Swamp Thing managed to captivate audiences by beautifully blending the worlds of horror, sci-fi and supernatural genres to create a true television gem.

Fans who missed their chance to enjoy the action as it unfolded weekly on DC Universe are in for a treat as Swamp Thing: The Complete Series arrives on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital. But just what awaits fans eager to add the latest DC superhero inspired drama to their Blu-ray collection?

With just ten episodes in its one-season run, Swamp Thing: The Complete Series is composed of two Blu-ray discs with the ten episodes split across the pair of discs. All said, Warner Bros. puts the release run time of 600 minutes and at a suggested retail price of $29.98, the release makes for the perfect weekend binge at a price point that won’t break the bank. Additionally, those who splurge for the Blu-ray release will receive a Digital Code which can be redeemed to enjoy the series whenever and wherever you’d like.

Now that we’ve worked our way through the basics, it’s time to address the answer to the question most fans, myself included, ask when it comes to determining when to add the latest Blu-ray release of their favorite television series: What bonus features does the collection offer?

Unfortunately, those who were looking to Swamp Thing: The Complete Series as a means to get their hands on bonus footage through deleted scenes or bonus features will be disappointed. While the release features all ten episodes of the series, the Blu-ray collection does not include any form of bonus features.

Deleted scenes and bonus features are always great ways to provide fans with new content to enjoy beyond what they’ve already seen. Given the series’ untimely end, it’s disappointing to see a lack of bonus content on the Swamp Thing Blu-ray collection. Even just a few deleted scenes, a gag reel or a bonus feature exploring the process of adapting Swamp Thing for DC Universe, would have gone a long way in providing fans with an ounce of bonus materials to enjoy.

From a fan perspective, Swamp Thing‘s one-and-done season was a truly underrated comic book gem which beautifully adapted the underrated character in a suspenseful and intense series. The strength of the series alone justifies adding Swamp Thing: The Complete Series to a die-hard DC fans’ collection.

It’s just unfortunate the dedicated fans who choose to purchase the collection won’t receive any bonus content to enjoy — especially considering the abrupt way in which show came to an end.
