Director Matt Reeves has unveiled the first look at Robert Pattinson’s Batman, and it’s as bone-chilling as fans could have hoped.

It’s safe to say that The Batman is one of the most eagerly-anticipated films of 2021.

The upcoming Batman reboot is directed by Matt Reeves, and it will star Robert Pattinson in the leading role as the Dark Knight himself. And even though not much is known about the plot of the film just yet, Reeves took to social media to unveil the first look at Pattinson in that iconic costume.

Check it out below:

With the cowl sporting a beautifully somber expression, the clip highlights Pattinson’s chiseled jaw to perfection – giving him a look that is both very elegant and incredibly unnerving. Meanwhile, the Bat-symbol itself seems to be constructed out of guns – perhaps the guns that killed Bruce Wayne’s parents? – adding a touch of tragic grit to the costume.

It’s clear that the film is going for a more grounded approach – an approach that greatly benefited the Batman character in the past – and this uniform is a classic example of how less is more. Batman appears to be little more than a simple (but theatrical) and efficient detective here – and, quite frankly, Pattinson couldn’t look better.

The triumphant but goosebump-inducing music that plays over the clip is undoubtedly just a snippet of what composer Michael Giacchino has in store for us, and it’s already giving us chills.

Reeves’ post single-handedly sent the internet into meltdown for multiple reasons. Firstly, because it was so darn unexpected, and secondly, because it’s Batman! However, the main reason that fans are losing it is down to the fact that some were unsure as to how Pattinson would fair as The Batman.

When the veteran performer was first cast in the titular role, some fans weren’t pleased simply because they felt Pattinson wasn’t right for the role – mainly due to his previous work on the Twilight films. However, that’s become almost a rite of passage for phenomenal superhero actors as the likes of Michael Keaton, Heath Ledger and Grant Gustin – all of whom have been phenomenal as Batman, The Joker and The Flash in their respective properties – received similar reactions when they were first cast.

From the looks of things, Pattinson is going to follow those great actors to a level of greatness that few achieve. As of this moment, his Batman is already winning countless people over – and rightly so.
