8. Batman and Catwoman (DC Comics)

If you thought Jean Grey having feelings for “bad boy” Wolverine was interesting, buckle up. Batman, and his alter ego Bruce Wayne, is complicated. His lack of trust and faith in his war on crime has kept him at arm’s lengths with many a romantic partner. And it’s his war on crime that makes his most successful relationship ironic.

We’ve only seen glimpses of Bruce’s relationship with Selina Kyle, Catwoman, in film and TV. In those iterations, we’ve seen varying degrees of what that relationship is; but it’s never felt fully formed. Enter the source material where, over the years, it only makes sense that these two should be with each other.

Their love may even be as strong and entangled as another of the most famous superhero couples (one we’ll visit later on in this list), as they have appeared as married on parallel worlds and stories. Though, it may be Tom King’s run on Batman, in the 2016 DC Rebirth continuity reboot, that touches on their relationship the most.

Perhaps it’s the chase that leads to feelings for one another, but Catwoman and Batman live similar lives; just (mostly) on opposite sides of the law. Though, at her core, Catwoman isn’t pure evil. And Batman knows this. Its why she’s allowed to get away more than the others in Batman’s rogue gallery.

What to read this Valentine’s Day: There is a lot to choose from for these two, however, there are two essential stories to read for this epic relationship. The Batman issue #608-619 from 2002-2003, also known as Batman: Hush. If you’re looking for a longer read, almost the entirety of  Tom King’s run on Batman from 2016-2019 is worth the read and touches on their relationship.
