Black Adam and Shazam! 2 will be shooting at the same time this summer
It’s been confirmed that both Black Adam and the Shazam! sequel are set to be filmed simultaneously this summer.
Despite having one of the lowest-grossing films within the DC Extended Universe, Shazam! not only had positive reviews from audiences and critics but opened the doors for a long, gestating, in development Black Adam movie. In addition that film now being on track, a Shazam! sequel is also in the works.
It has been confirmed that both Shazam! 2 and Black Adam will be filming at the same time this summer, as both films are currently in pre-production, according to Geeks Worldwide. While Dwayne Johnson’s Egyptian demigod character is not expected to meet his Greek-Roman-inspired equivalent until a third Shazam! film, Shazam! 2 most likely will set the stage for more exploration into the Shazam Family mythology in subsequent films in this franchise.

Shazam! 2 was greenlit for an April 1, 2022 release after the first movie’s moderate success at the box office. Zachary Levi and Michelle Borth will reprise their roles as the adult-half of the godlike superhero and Lady Shazam, respectively. Henry Gayden is returning to pen the screenplay, while David F. Sandberg and Peter Safran are expected to direct and produce, respectively.
An interesting note is that if it was not for the efforts of Johnson, Shazam! might not be the “win” DC Films and Warner Bros. hoped it would be. “The Rock”, of course, thanked moviegoers for their enthusiasm and ticket sales. Black Adam will see the Hobbs and Shaw star portray one of Shazam’s most dangerous foes and one of the DC Universe’s most misguided souls.
Jaume Collet-Serra will direct from a screenplay by Adam Szykiel, and Johnson will also produce alongside Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions. Beau Flynn and Scott Sheldon are also producing under Flynn Picture Co. in association with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. The film will storm into theaters on December 22, 2021.
