Anthony Mackie isn’t nervous about launching MCU Phase Four

Anthony Mackie is prepared to help kick off the next phase of the MCU with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is at the dawn of a new era, as Phase Four is bringing a plethora of new characters and original storylines to the interconnected universe. One of the first projects on the slate is Disney Plus’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which will see Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson take on the mantle of Captain America. And believe it or not, Mackie isn’t anxious about setting the tone for Phase Four.
The Altered Carbon star told The Daily Beast that he’s “not at all” intimidated by the notion of launching the next chapter in the MCU. He even joked that should the show fail, he’d rather it be a complete flop than a mixed bag. I feel like, if we’re going to fail, we should fail 100 percent,” he said. “Don’t fail halfway.”
Mackie’s excitement about what lies ahead for Marvel Studios seems to have eliminated any nervous energy. This is something he credits to the creative team at Marvel, who he says has been supportive every step of the way:

"“There’s so much stuff going on in the Marvel Universe since Disney has gotten involved, and we have a really supportive team. It’s Victoria [Alonso] and Louis [D’Esposito] and Kevin [Feige] and all the other guys over there—we always have people we can talk to if we feel like stuff isn’t going right. So it’s been great. We’ve definitely stumbled a few times, but we’re running full steam ahead to get these shows done.”"
MCU Phase Four differs from its three predecessors in that it not only features new films and TV shows but also signifies the beginning of a transformed status quo. Audiences can now expect a world that features fresh faces and lacks cornerstone characters like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers.
Black Widow — a prequel — will officially kick things off this spring, but The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be the first present-day story. This means that everything will truly begin, in earnest, with Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes’ latest MCU exploits. And if the recent teaser was any indication, the limited series could make serious waves when it arrives on Disney Plus in August.
