The delayed Disney Plus series Hawkeye may finally be entering production soon according to star Jeremy Renner.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is still going to grow after the epic finale in Avengers: Endgame and old faces are headed to Disney Plus for their big return. One of those is Jeremy Renner, well-known for portraying the Avengers expert archer Clint “Hawkeye” Barton.

Hawkeye’s solo streaming series has been in development for a while and was reportedly hit with a delay a month ago. That appears to be changing – or wasn’t the case at all – if a tease by its star is to be believed. Renner wrote “Time to start stretching” on his Instagram story, above the logo for the show in a caption (HT: ComicBook.com).

Over the past few months, there was a panic that Hawkeye was being “delayed indefinitely”, however Disney has denied there was any delay.

Executive producer Trinh Tran spoke with ComicBook.com about Hawkeye’s storyline. Reluctant to give too much away, Tran revealed at minimum she is interested in the character, the events of Endgame will play a factor, and things will revolve around Clint and the spry newcomer, Kate Bishop.

Addressing the new character and the possibilities that come with that, Tran said:

"“Well, they’re both Hawkeyes in a way, right? So you want to make sure… I’m always interested in introducing new characters. And now we have a fascinating young female who is very interested in this role. So you’re going to see a balance of both.”"

Bumblebee star Hailee Steinfeld is in talks to play Bishop, Clint’s partner and protege, but the actress hasn’t officially signed on yet. She told the British-based Radio Times in November it’s not “necessarily happening.”

More from Disney Plus

“We’re going to wait and find out, I guess,” she said. Negotiations between her and Disney/Marvel are believed to be another possible reason for any delay. Steinfeld also has a full plate as the lead in the Apple TV Plus original Dickinson.

An exact start date for production hasn’t been revealed and neither has a premiere date been confirmed. The feeling is Hawkeye will stream starting at some point next year alongside Loki, WandaVision, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
