Thor: Love and Thunder – Some Guardians of the Galaxy to appear

Vin Diesel revealed that some members of the lovable cosmic superhero team are set to feature in Thor: Love and Thunder. But who could they be?

In the press tour for Valiant’s Bloodshot, Vin Diesel seems to have let slip a spoiler about a different comic book property. As per Diesel, who voices the beloved Groot, some members of his Marvel Cinematic Universe team, the Guardians of the Galaxy, will appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. ComicBook.com quoted Diesel saying:

"“Thor will also, the director talked to me about Thor will incorporate some of the Guardians of the Galaxy… That’ll be very interesting, nobody knows, maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.”"

From Diesel’s reaction, it seems like he probably shouldn’t have let that tidbit of information out. But MCU fans will be buzzing at the possibility of a team-up between the God of Thunder and the Guardians in a Taika Waititi-directed film.

Thor met the Guardians in Avengers: Infinity War when they rescued him after Thanos killed half the surviving Asgardians, including his best friend Heimdall and his brother Loki. Moreover, he and Peter Quill/Star-Lord immediately got off on the wrong foot because Quill’s team belittled his fitness in comparison to Thor. And then he effectively broke up the Guardians as Rocket and Groot chose to join his mission while the other Guardians pursued Thanos.

The team were back together at the end of Avengers: Endgame, and even took Thor under their wing. Having relinquished his position as King of Asgard to Valkyrie, it seemed that the hammer-wielding hero was looking forward to a life adventuring in space. This may explain how the Guardians – or at least some of them – might play a role in the fourth Thor film. We may get to see him and the Guardians complete one adventure before he is called away for other duties with Valkyrie, Korg and the new Thor, Jane Foster.

Since Diesel is in the know about this possible cameo, we can assume that Groot and Rocket – the two characters who have had the most contact with the long-standing MCU hero – will star in the film. Hopefully Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord will also appear in the film as the pair clearly have some unresolved issues to sort out.

Given the delay in releasing Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, which is set to release in 2023, how excited are you to see the team in Thor: Love and Thunder in 2021?
