Lucifer shuts down production: Here’s what we know
The Netflix series joins fellow Warner Bros. heroes in shutting down production due to the novel coronavirus. Here’s everything we know about it.
Lucifer may be off our screens at the moment, but the fifth (and, at one point, presumed final) season is currently being filmed in order to be streamed on Netflix at some point later this year. However, it has just been revealed that the show has suspended production.
According to TVLine, production on the fifth season has indeed been shut down as a precaution out of concerns for the safety of the cast and crew due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. It joins fellow Warner Bros. comic book shows Riverdale and The Flash – both of which have also cancelled production until further notice.
What does this mean for Lucifer?
The report states that production for the 16-episode fifth season was nearing its conclusion when it was shut down. While it’s unknown when filming will resume, Netflix have yet to announce a release date for the first eight episodes but those episodes could still be ready for streaming at some point in time. As for the rest of the season, that will become clearer when production picks up.

Lucifer is undoubtedly one of the most popular shows on television. Initially airing on Fox for three seasons, the show was unceremoniously cancelled back in 2018 – and that launched a massive fan campaign to get it revived.
Thankfully, Netflix swooped in and revived it, producing a critically-acclaimed maturer fourth season before renewing it for a fifth (and final) offering.
However, intent on defying the odds, it has since been reported that the show could live on once more as Netflix is eager to bring the cast and crew back for a sixth season.
Undoubtedly more information as to when the show will resume production will become available soon.
