According to Kevin Smith, we might see Matt Murdock show up in the MCU’s third Spider-Man film.
One of 2021’s most eagerly anticipated films is undoubtedly the untitled third Spider-Man film. Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it will see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and it was recently confirmed that Zendaya would also be returning as Michelle “M.J.” Jones.
As with any MCU film, there’s a lot of speculation as to what might go down in Spider-Man 3, but this film has that little bit more intrigue surrounding it.
The closing moments of its predecessor Spider-Man: Far From Home quite literally burst open Spidey’s world as we know it, but the biggest cause for concern came from the uncertainty surrounding the Sony/Marvel rights issue last summer. However, thanks to a little sense from Holland himself, all is back on and the film will hit theaters next year.
Now, back to the first point. With Peter’s true identity out in the world, fans have already come up with a list of potential plots for the upcoming film, but it turns out that one of the more popular theories might actually be true.
According to Kevin Smith on the latest episode of his Fatman Beyond podcast, there is a rumor floating around suggesting that Charlie Cox could end up appearing in the film as Matt Murdock/Daredevil.
“I heard another piece of good f**kn’ news. Did You hear that Spider-Man, the new Spider-Man movie, gonna have a lawyer in it? … Charlie Cox, they’re bringing in as Matt Murdock. That’s been the rumor online and they say that’s like the one that like Marvel’s like god damn it how did that get out?”
Fans will, of course, know that Cox portrayed Murdock in the critically-acclaimed Netflix series Daredevil for three seasons – as well as spin-off The Defenders. And ever since it was unjustly cancelled by the streaming service, fans have been longing to see him reprise his role in some other project.
Naturally, this would be huge as Spidey and Daredevil have worked together before in the comics (and the classic ’94 animated series), but it would also bring in the Netflix shows under the MCU umbrella.
