9. Birds of Prey (by Gail Simone)

With Birds of Prey coming out a little less than two months ago, now is the perfect time to visit one of the comic runs that heavily influenced the film, especially Black Canary and Huntress, and that is Birds of Prey by Gail Simone. Running from issues #56 to #108 of the first volume of Birds of Prey, there’s plenty of material for you to consume just from this run alone. More than that though, this run is just downright fun from beginning to end.

When this run starts, it’s hard to get a feeling of where it’s heading, but after two issues, you will more than likely be hooked. Personally, none of the stories ever fully drew this writer in, instead they were just background noise to the wonderful character work throughout Simone’s run.

Seriously, the characters and how they’re portrayed here are wonderful and will probably make you a fan if you weren’t before. For example, I wasn’t really a fan of Huntress before reading this run. Now? She’s one of my favorite DC characters. So, if you’re looking for some pure escapism with some wonderful characters right now, Birds of Prey by Gail Simone is the absolute right pick for you.
