5. Uncanny X-Force (by Rick Remender)

Ever think to yourself, “What about the X-Men, but a lot more violent?” I have the series for you then and that is Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender.

In every way that matters this is everything that you could ever want from an X-Men series: Time travel, alternate dimensions, rotating teams, Apocalypse is ever-present. But, as alluded to, there’s one thing much more present within this series than a typical mainstream X-Men title. There’s so much more stabbing. Seriously, it’s so satisfying just to see a team of X-Men, led by Wolverine, just be able to let loose for once.

More from Comics

Beyond all that basic gratification though, this series manages to combine excellent character work and stories throughout it’s 35 issues. Everyone from Deadpool to Archangel has a great arc within the series and everyone has at least one moment to shine amongst the insanity around them.

There’s also a surprising amount of humor – most of it dark – within the series as well. Most of that comes from Deadpool though, but that’s okay because this is the only time that I’ve ever really liked the character in the comics.

Suffice to say, this series has everything that you’re looking for if you’re an X-Men fan, plus some ultra-violence if you’re looking for that as well.
