Juggernaut is known as one of the X-Men and Marvel Comics’ fiercest enemies. Is it time to bring him over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

The Juggernaut has been part of the X-Men’s history for decades. He made his debut in The X-Men No. 12 in 1965 to be exact. Cain Marko (Juggernaut) then moved on and feuded with Deadpool, Hulk, Thor and so many others.

While he has been a villain most of his career, he’s also been a hero. In Uncanny X-Men No. 410, Juggernaut started his path to become a hero. At first, he was putting on an act. It wasn’t until he met a young mutant named Samuel “Sammy” Paré that he began to change his ways. They grew closer and Juggernaut became a better person. However, he returned to a life of crime and destruction again before changing his ways yet again during Matthew Rosenberg’s run of Uncanny X-Men in 2019.

Now, Juggernaut will be coming back for his own mini-series in May, written by all-star writer Fabian Nicieza. The description makes it appear that he’s going back to being a hero or, at the very least, taking responsibility for his actions. The description on Comixology reads:

"“Nothing can stop the Juggernaut. Except himself. Another building falls. Cain Marko is done letting others pick up the pieces of the things he’s destroyed.”"

Juggernaut’s past in Marvel Comics and his new comic book mini-series is only part of this article.

We’ve seen two versions of Juggernaut in the theaters. The first was in X-Men: The Last Stand. This was a bad interpretation of him. His second and most recent was in Deadpool 2 – and this was a much better representation of Marvel Comics’ unstoppable force. He was funny, strong, and brutal – everything we’d want him to be.

Juggernaut probably won’t be in the next Deadpool project. That doesn’t mean his run should stop there. He’s a character that would flourish in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There was a reason Juggernaut’s past was brought up. Marvel Studios loves villains who have a layers. Juggernaut may have started out as a one-dimensional character, but he’s vastly improved over the years. His relationship with Sammy showed us that he was capable of caring.

There’s also the reason he was a crook in the first place. After being abused by his father for so long, he felt the need to be the one with power, so upon receiving the power of Cyttorak, Cain started dishing out the pain instead of receiving it. Later, he robbed banks to save his best friend Black Tom Cassidy from dying. All of these things highlight that the character is more than just a brute in the MCU.

The MCU is going to need to some powerful villains coming up. Captain Marvel is the strongest Avenger in the MCU, but someone like Juggernaut could perhaps give her some real competition. They can both take a lot of punishment and dish it out.

Moreover, he could also be an antagonist for She-Hulk or Bruce Banner, or Thor. And after delving into why he became a criminal, Marvel Studios could theoretically get into reforming him… maybe even have him become one of the X-Men years later.

If not, continuing to be the Unstoppable Juggernaut isn’t a bad thing.
