Finn’s initial arc in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker would’ve given him more to do

Finn had more of a prominent and different role in the original story for Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker than its release.

To say Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker is divisive amongst moviegoers, critics and fans of the franchise alike is an understatement, to say the least. And now, it seems that there’s another element that could divide people: the fact that the character of Finn (John Boyega) originally had a different role.

As revealed by Digital Spy, Finn initially had a larger and different role in the original version of The Rise of Skywalker as the official behind-the-scenes book, The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker reveals some details about Finn that suggests he could have had more to do than just following Rey across the unknown regions of space.

Aside from a prior unused sequence, which had Finn, Rey, Poe and the droids engage on a dangerous up-river adventure, the other had Finn and Poe work together in infiltration and covert intelligence-gathering mission to retrieve a code-breaking machine in a desperate attempt to thwart the First Order.

However, there is an arc specific to Finn that would have brought a little more closure to his story and would ultimately allow Boyega’s character to have a deep connection – the last common link to a family – independent of Rey or Poe. In this potential story, Finn had a long-lost sibling that was stranded on a garbage planet, of whom had a vital piece of information that may provide the key to defeating the First Order.
