Producer of The Flash Barbara Muschietti has revealed what’s happening with the highly-anticipated DCEU film.

To say that The Flash has had something of a turbulent history would be quite the understatement. The long-awaited film is supposed to serve as a solo entry for Ezra Miller’s Scarlet Speedster in the DC Extended Universe, but it’s had some issues getting made over the past few years.

Recent reports suggested that the film had finally entered pre-production before the outbreak of the novel coronavirus threw everything off-course, but recently things have taken another unexpected turn.

The recent controversy surrounding star Ezra Miller – due to an online video in which he appeared choke a woman – threw the film’s future into doubt, with fans speculating that he may not reprise his Justice League role in the upcoming film after all. This was then suggested further through various reports that hinted at Warner Bros. moving ahead with or without him.

However, The Flash‘s producer, Barbara Muschietti – sister of the film’s director Andy Muschietti – recently responded to a fan on Instagram, confirming that pre-production has indeed begun on the Scarlet Speedster’s solo offering. The fan had asked her if they had started working on the film yet and she simply responded “Yep”.

Now this of course doesn’t confirm how far on they are – which, given everything happening in the world, probably isn’t all that far – nor does it confirm if Miller will still be taking part in it. However, it does negate those rumors of the film’s premature demise, confirming that that Warner Bros. are clearly still moving ahead with The Flash.

The film is currently set for release on July 1, 2022 and is expected to be a live-action adaptation of the iconic DC Comics storyline Flashpoint in which Barry Allen travels back in time to save his mother and, in the process, changes the timeline beyond recognition. The storyline was previously adapted in the third season of The CW’s The Flash TV series.
