Under his company – Mad Ghost Productions – Geoff Johns is set to produce the Green Lantern HBO Max series.

Back in late October 2019, it was announced that Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti would produce both the anthology series Strange Adventures and a Green Lantern series for HBO Max. Most recently reported on CBR.com, Berlanti will now be joined by the one scribe who redefined and expanded the Green Lantern lore – Geoff Johns.

The comic book legend has a long history with the character and he’s also been involved in Arrow, The Flash, Titans and DC Films’ biggest hit Aquaman (not to mention Patty Jenkins’ upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 ). He is now attached to produce the Green Lantern HBO Max series through his production company, Mad Ghost Productions.

Not much is known about the Green Lantern series except that it will feature two Green Lanterns from Earth and will involve Sinestro. For those who might not be aware, Sinestro is the former member of the Green Lantern Corps who becomes the archenemy of Hal Jordan. While that could always end up coming to life on the show, the creative team may have a different angle on the story and introduction of the characters.

The last live-action Green Lantern was the Martin Campbell directed 2011 feature film starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular character. Johns was co-producer of the project and Berlanti co-wrote the film. Other media included the Green Lantern: The Animated Series.

Johns was set to take over writing and producing duties from co-writers David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes of the next live-action GL–related project, Green Lantern Corps, for the DC Extended Universe, after Goyer co-wrote a story with Johns. It would feature Hal Jordan and John Stewart as major protagonists and other Corps in the Emotional Spectrum would make an appearance. Johns was expected to deliver a draft of the script by the end of last year but it seems DC Films has priority with other projects as of late.

Whether this Green Lantern HBO Max series is an evolution of the feature film reboot is uncertain. HBO Max will launch May 27.
