More bad news for MCU fans. Daredevil isn’t in Spider-Man 3, but is there still hope for Daredevil and the other Defenders?

Name a better, more successful, more groundbreaking universe than the godfather of all shared universes – the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve enjoyed more than a decade of great movies and television shows all woven together by strong storylines and surprising plot twists.

For as long as the MCU existed, its universe has expanded across multiple platforms including Freeform, ABC, Hulu, and of course, Netflix.

Daredevil is undoubtedly the best of Netflix’s Marvel shows, and actor Charlie Cox was nothing short of amazing as Matt Murdock. Why else would fans want to see him reprise his role as Peter Parker’s lawyer in the untitled Spider-Man 3 film? Yes rumors have suggest that he would be in the upcoming MCU film.

According to Cox, however, it won’t happen. In a recent Zoom interview with ComicBook.com, he revealed that he wasn’t aware of the rumors but he’d be all in if they asked.

"“I hadn’t heard those rumors, but it’s certainly not with my Daredevil. I’m not involved in it… If that’s true, it’s not with me. It’s with another actor.”"

This was one of many rumors that got our hopes up but ultimately proved to be false. Another rumor suggested Vincent D’Onofrio, who played Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin in the Netflix series would make his MCU big screen debut in Spider-Man 3 as well. That rumor was also put to rest.

None of the aforementioned rumors are impossible. After all, unlike X-Men and the Fantastic Four, Disney owned the rights to Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher. With the shows’ collective cancellations on Netflix and Disney Plus making its debut, it was bound to happen.

More from Marvel

Avengers Endgame would have been the perfect spot for the Defenders to rub elbows with the MCU’s elite. Of course, it never happened. Endgame co-writer Stephen McFeely gave a nonsensical explanation, but hey, at least he gave us Howard the Duck. Nevertheless, with the MCU progressive phases, there was hope the Defenders would cross over with the Avengers at some point, right? Wrong.

There hasn’t been any hopeful news regarding a revival for any of the Netflix shows. In fact, some of the actors have moved on to other projects, including Luke Cage’s Michael Colter.  As Cox explained, during his ComicBook.com interview, making a television show requires contractual flexibility.

"“When you make a television show, it’s so complicated, and people’s schedules are so difficult, and contracts are so difficult.”"

As of today, no signs are pointing to any Netflix hero returning to their respective roles, including Charlie Cox, who hopes he can return. Even after the disappointing excuses and stale news, there’s still a burning glimmer of hope.
